Republican Party of Minnesota Chairman Ron Carey today released the following statement regarding Dr. Brian Davis’ 2nd Quarter fundraising results.

“Dr. Davis’ strong fundraising quarter shows he has the support of a wide base of Republicans. He has been working hard, traveling the district, and his message of energy security, improved health care, and lower taxes is resonating with voters in the First Congressional District. I am confident he will not only win the primary in September, but defeat Tim Walz in November.”

(Rochester, MN) - Today, Brian Davis, the endorsed Republican candidate in Minnesota's First Congressional District, released his second quarter fundraising numbers for 2008.

During the second quarter - April 1 to June 30 - Brian Davis for Congress had $391,601 in total receipts. Total contributions from individuals were over $268,000, more than any quarter reported by the freshman incumbent, Congressman Tim Walz. Davis reported $376,718 cash-on-hand at the end of the quarter and $21,150 of political party and other PAC donations.

Since winning the Party's endorsement on March 29, 2008, the campaign continues to build momentum as the number of total donations nearly tripled. Stated Davis, "We're pleased by the strong support we're receiving. We continue working to unify the party behind our campaign." The Davis campaign received contributions from the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), the Republican Party of Minnesota, the Minnesota First Congressional District Committee, and Republican party county organizations and activists across the entire First District.

"Our fundraising numbers reflect the support we're receiving from activists and concerned citizens in Minnesota. Voters are responding to our message focused on finding solutions to gas prices, energy, and an out-of-control federal budget." said Davis.

Brad Biers, the Davis campaign manager commented, "We're happy with our grass roots campaign because nearly 90% of the individual donations received were from Minnesota residents and half of all donations received this quarter were $50 or less. This contrasts sharply with the Walz campaign where a much greater portion of their fundraising comes from out-of-state PACs, the type of PACs that are frequently out-of-step with mainstream Minnesota values."

Group views Davis as the best Republican candidate to defeat Walz in November

First District Republican Congressional candidate Brian Davis continues to build momentum as he received the coveted endorsement of the Freedom Club of America last week.

An organization of conservative Republican contributors, the Freedom Club of America only invests in candidates with rock solid conservative credentials who have a legitimate chance of winning the general election.

The Freedom Club is very selective in the races in which it chooses to get involved. Past recipients of the Freedom Club's select endorsement include Michelle Bachmann, John Kline and Gil Gutknecht.

Davis Top Fundraiser Again in 4th Quarter

(Rochester, MN) - Today, Brian Davis, Republican candidate in Minnesota's First Congressional District, released his fourth quarter fundraising numbers for 2007.

During the fourth quarter - October 1 to December 31 - Brian Davis for Congress had $59,302 in total receipts, the most of any Republican candidate in the race. This follows his third quarter results which were also the most of any candidate at that time. In addition, Davis had the lowest expenses for 2007. His cash-on-hand at the end of the year was $84,901.

Among major donors, Davis had strong fundraising both within Minnesota and nationally. Davis said, "It's clear that the general election will require support both locally and nationally for us to be successful in November. I think I've demonstrated that we'll be able to do that when the time comes."

As Davis noted earlier, "Our fundraising numbers are indicative of the support we're receiving from Republican activists across the district. Voters are responding to our conservative message focused on finding solutions to immigration, energy, an out-of-control federal budget and health care."

Fundraising Update: Preliminary 4th Quarter Results

Davis Raises Over $156k in Minnesota's CD1 Race in 2007

(Rochester, MN) - Today, Brian Davis, Republican candidate in Minnesota's First Congressional District, released his preliminary fourth quarter fundraising numbers for 2007.

During the fourth quarter - October 1 to December 31 - Brian Davis for Congress had over $58,000 in total receipts. Independent contributions totaled over $48,000, nearly the same amount as last quarter's contributions of $55,035, which was the most of any Republican candidate in the race. In addition, over $8,000 in contributions were reported from the candidate, leaving over $80,000 as cash on hand and an overall favorable balance sheet for the campaign.

The campaign continues to build momentum as donations were received from over twice as many supporters as the prior two quarters combined. Three times as many major donations from Minnesota residents were received demonstrating Davis' increasing local support. Among those contributing were the Political Action Committee of the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology and Oncology with $2,500, a medical specialty society of which Davis is a member, and former U.S. Senator William Armstrong, Republican of Colorado.

"We're pleased to continue receiving strong support for our campaign both in southern Minnesota and nationally. Our fundraising numbers are indicative of the support we're receiving from Republican activists across the district. The final year-end report is due to the Federal Election Commission on January 31, 2008.

Halloween Fundraising: A Great Time to Catch Folks at Home!

The Brian Davis for Congress campaign was recently in Los Angeles at the same time as the American Society for Therapeutic Radiology Oncology (ASTRO) meeting. While I participated in the scientific meeting, some of the activities outside of the event were devoted to our campaign. We had the opportunity to visit with friends and make new ones at our fundraiser organized by Erika and Jennifer held at the Liberty Grill, a fitting name and location for the event. Since ASTRO is a not-for-profit organization, similar in this respect to the Mayo Clinic, it would not be typical for it to endorse or support any candidate. In contrast, ASTRO PAC may provide support as may individuals of the organization, CEOs, Presidents or otherwise.

Regarding funding for the trip, Miles at the Federal Election Commission (FEC) hotline confirmed our suspicions: expenses need to be paid by the campaign. My wife Lori attended the FEC campaign finance school in Virginia in May so that we’d have a better handle on resolving these issues. In a medical lobbying visit to Washington DC during April, physician and medical physicist colleagues indicated their willingness to fund my campaign so this visit also was charged to our campaign after we filed the candidacy in June. This visit also provided the opportunity to meet Mr. Walz in his congressional office.

I returned to Rochester just in time to go trick or treating with some of the little ones and pass out scary literature in the neighborhood:

Happy Halloween! The reason that I’m writing to you is to introduce you to my campaign for the U.S. House of Representatives in our District, the 1st District of Minnesota and to seek your support…..

In the summer after graduating high school a friend and I had a job painting house addresses on the front curb of residences during the day and requesting donations for this service during the evening. It was Paul’s second summer doing this job and my first. Paul had obtained permission from Mayor Sabonjian’s office for this privilege which helped fund a portion of our college education. Since Paul was the experienced one who had set up this job he made an executive decision regarding the division of labor: he would paint and I would collect. I could typically cover about 60 to 80 households an evening, alone or with friends. Last night for Halloween we passed out 70 letters as we traded for sweets. We found some new supporters and also ran into a couple of folks who have a history of supporting the other guys, but it was all very cordial. Minnesota is a great place. We'll work on them.

There have been some recent posts in the blogosphere that attempt to analyze patterns of fundraising among the contenders for the Republican endorsement in the First District. Our friends over at IDHA readily allow posts on their blog where we made some initial comments and indicated that we’d comment further. Here are a few thoughts: 1) It’s good to have friends and colleagues who are willing to provide support. 2) Having receipts greater than expenses is a good way to run a business or a campaign. 3) The FEC reports don’t tell the whole story, particularly as it concerns donations at $200 and below.

Halloween wasn’t really that scary after all, except for our littlest one, Kirsten, when her older brother put on his wicked black mask.
