The convention will also provide a stage for the party's endorsed candidate for Congress in the 1st Congressional District, Brian Davis. The seat is currently held by U.S. Rep. Tim Walz, a Mankato Democrat who is seeking a second term in the U.S. House.
In a brief speech, Davis, a Mayo Clinic doctor, assailed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Democrats for failing to enact a common-sense solution to skyrocketing gas prices.
Davis, who advocates lifting restrictions on the ability of oil producers to exploit domestic gas reserves including those in the Arctic National Wildlife Reserve in Alaska, says that Democrats have floundered as gas prices have risen from $2 a gallon to nearly $4 a gallon.
"I will tell you that working families in Minnesota cannot afford two more years of Tim Walz and liberals in Congress," Davis said.
